VHF Quarterly review meeting with Ekwe Community Committee , Ogbenneisii Auto. Community, Ahiazu Mbaise. The Committee had interaction on how to engage and identify with traditional ruler, security networks and local government council to ensure that gender based Violence are addressed in the community.

The Ekwe Committee were also of the opinion to give support to women groups in the six wards review their bye-laws, especially the parts that violent rights of woman and promote equity through these bye laws .

EKWE COMMUNITY COMMITTEE

On 5th, August, 2022, @virginheartfoundation team with support from ActionAid Nigeria held a review meeting with Women Peer Educators in Ogbe , Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State.

The quarterly Meeting provided the team opportunity for experience sharing on their engagement with various women groups in their communities.

A Checklist was used during the interactive session to verify or determine their understanding using AAN Peer Education Manual.

The session helped to strengthen and encourage them to be more proactive and committed to ending harmful Socio-Cultural norms that power VAWG vhf4girls team noted their challenges and successes recorded.

On the 10th August, 2022, The Ogbe Ekwe Reinforcement Community Committee held a quarterly Review Meeting with support from ActionAidActionAid Nigeria .

The Members pointed out the need for the committee to look inwardly towards ending VAWG in ogbe community .

They were reminded that selection of members of the committee was intentional to assist in strengthening the SLOC project and for community development.

The Group suggested that there should be a platform to sustain interactions than physical meetings, that would enable reporting of cases on VAWG.

The Committee also reiterated on the need to publicize the work and gains of the committee in the community by creating awareness in churches and at the apex Socio-Cultural forum(called Aladinma and Awuruawu).

The Ekwe Committee discussed on the need to intervene on the education activities at the community schools, Central School, Ogbe where Livestock are reared and sold. The Community Committee who regretted that rearing of animals at the school environment, added that such activity disturbs academic activities and poses health related issues on the children.

They came up with action plans to organize and protest against the unjustified rearing of cattle and other Livestock at the school premises. They identified that the business of rearing cattle at the school was enabled by people who cash out from the business and had refused to relocate the business in the market designated for livestock business.

1. Emergency Meeting of all Women Ward Leaders of all 14 wards in Ogbe (Umuokawa, Umueze, Umuoma, Amuzi, Amorji, Okwu, Umulolo, Umuodu, Umuagugwu wards, among others). on planned Protest at the OCDA meeting this 18th august 2022.

2.That Women from Ogbe must come out en-mass, with a touch of black to protest.

3. Writing and Sharing of circulatory notes to apex Socio-Cultural group towards ending VAWG in the community, which also would announce the existence of the Ekwe Committee to the entire Community.

4 . The Ekwe Committee also agreed to organize a sensitization program at the community the health care center in Ogbe, on ending FGM.

Virgin Heart Foundation made the announcement during he Women August Meeting with Umuaghara Uvuru Women Wing, in Uvuru Aboh Mbaise LGA at the grand finale of the women’s annual meeting.

The women are embarking on a community project, to build plaza as their contribution to social development.NGO Alliance for Africa, AFA partnered with Virgin Heart Foundation and donated #50, 000 for the building project.

AHIAZU MBAISE WOMEN PROTEST AGAINST REARING, BREEDING AND TRADING OF CATTLE, GOATS AND OTHER LIVESTOCK AT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS.

The Ekwe Reinforcement Committee, Ogbe Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area recently created by Virgin Heart Foundation, an NGO working on Actionaid Nigeria Project in Ahiazu Mbaise supported women to protest the insensitive rearing and breeding of cattle, goats and other Livestock at the community schools, including central school and St Patrick’s Mission School, Afor Ogbe.The Women numbering over one Thousand, drawn from the 14 wards of Ogbe ward one, enmass on Saturday morning at the Central School, Afor Ogbe, School Field to show their grievances to the Ogbe Community Development Association, OCDA.Mrs Susan Ibeh, who spoke on behalf of the women, pointed out the distruption of education activities caused by rearing of animals , she regretted the health related issues parents, children and teachers face at the school environment.Our Reporter , who covered the protest noticed cattle escretes all over the school field. Mrs. Ibeh, while addressing the Community Leaders noted that women will no longer keep silent over these abnormalities due to few individual who make money at the detriment of the health and safety of the children and entire Community.President, Catholic Women Organization, Holy Trinity Ogbe, Ezinne Charity Ugwuibe used the medium to alert the community leaders of the hazards of street trading along Afor Ogbe axis and hinted that leaders must take a proactive step to restore normalcy in the area.Responding, The President-General , OCDA Ogbe, Tobi Nwosu charged women to warn fellow women against street trading and hinted that women must trade in designated market areas to bring about normalcy in the area.Mr. Nwosu maintained that the OCDA had set up taskforce committee to mitigate the concern and promised to address all the insensitive breeding of cattle at the school environment within one month.
