Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 – “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld.”
Today, on Menstrual Hygiene Day, Virgin Heart Foundation joins millions around the world in breaking the silence and raising awareness about the critical importance of menstrual health and hygiene for all women, girls, and people who menstruate.
Menstruation is a natural and essential part of life, yet it remains shrouded in stigma, myths, and discrimination. Across our communities, too many girls miss school during their periods, women are forced to use unsafe materials due to lack of access to menstrual products, and countless individuals are denied dignity and safety due to period poverty.
This year’s theme, “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld,” reminds us that menstrual health is a human rights issue. It is directly linked to gender equality, education, health, and economic empowerment. We cannot achieve social justice or sustainable development while half the population faces barriers to managing their menstruation with dignity.
As an organization committed to advancing gender equality and social justice, we:
- Call on governments and policymakers to provide free or subsidized menstrual products in schools, workplaces, and public institutions.
- Urge communities and traditional leaders to challenge harmful taboos and create safe, inclusive environments for open dialogue about menstruation.
- Appeal to schools and educators to integrate comprehensive menstrual health education into curricula for all students, regardless of gender.
- Encourage private sector partners to invest in innovative, sustainable, and affordable menstrual products.
Menstrual Hygiene Day is more than a moment, it’s a movement. A movement to ensure that no girl stays home from school because of her period, no woman suffers in silence, and no one is made to feel ashamed for something so natural.
