2-day Orientation and engagement with traditional birth attendants, patent medicine dealers and community health workers on elimination of medicalization of FGM

Virgin Heart Foundation empowered through training the Traditional Birth Attendants TBAs, Health Workers and Patent Medical Dealers from 20 Communities towards ending Female Genital Mutilation in Imo State. The TBAs and Health workers was identified through a research carried out by UNICEF and WHO as perpetrators of FGM.

Medicalisation of Female Genital Mutilation is a practice of FGM by Health Workers and Medical Care givers. Research also provides that Medical Officials and Health Workers also perpetuate the practice of FGM most times at the health centers, Maternities hospitals and homes of these babies. Engaging these health workers and TBAs is important to understand harmful effects of FGM on girls and women.
