QUARTERLY MONITORING EXERCISE DURING PEER SESSION

VISIT TO UMUAGHARA/UMULOLO WOMEN WING.

With support from #actionaidnigeria VHF monitored Meeting during peer session with Umuaghara (Umuagukwu) women, ogbe Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Thursday, 28th October , 2021. Facilitators Mrs Chinyere Ndulaka and Mrs Ogadimma Ogu, monitored by VHF officials. Topic: Health Seeking Behaviour. Module 2 unit 4. The need for the women to take care of their health status, embrace healthy practices, avoid things that can cause sickness, and seek for medical assistance when necessary. The women were happy and interested to learn more. We also told them to report to us any form of violence against women and girls in their villages. The ward leader on behalf of the women thanked us and promise to work with us in every aspect. Here are some pictures below.MRS. Virgin Heart Foundation with support from #actionaidnigeria held her Quarterly Monitoring Visit with Umuaghara Women Group, Ogbe, Ahiazu Mbaise during peer session.The Women stated reasons why they don’t report cases of violence against women and girls, that anyone who reports , may be indicted for taking affairs of the community outside, and many of these cases are left unreported or heard .The culture of silence is still on the increase in most communities, due to lack of sensitization.The women also mentioned other reasons they don’t report cases, including financial requirements, especially from the police, hospital and court.We outlined ways they can contribute, on organizing to end Violence Against Women and Girls.* By speaking out* Report cases to our Community Women Peer Educators * Ensure Victims are protected and stop victim shaming.* Contribute within themselves to give a victim medical assistance, especially in cases of sexual violence.* Prepare to defend the victims at all times.* Go all out for women who abused by their spouses .Outcomes from our outing was encouraging.One of the women disclosed that lots of Violence Against Women and Girls are perpetrated within the kindred unreported.She said she is willing to report and give evidence on cases of Violence Against Women and Girls henceforth.

With support from #actionaidnigeria Virgin Heart Foundation has completed her second Monitoring Visit to CWO Ogbe women group during peer session.Saturday, 13th November 2021. Topic: Self and Time management. Module 1: Unit 5.No of women present: 46. Discussion was based on the ability of a woman to be effectively organised, such that her physical, mental and emotional resources are productively used for her wellbeing and development.The Woman Peer Educator,Ezinne Charity Ugwuibe challenged women on contributing usefully to community development by committing towards changing harmful Socio-Cultural Norms that exacerbates VAWG.Adding her voice, VHF Team led by Peace Dike reveals the atrocities committed against women and girls, to include baby factory businesses, Trafficking-in person and Sexual Gender Violence enabled within the communities.She charged the women to speak with one voice against practices that powers Violence against Women and Girls.OUTCOME:The women are now fully aware of the vices and harmful Socio-Cultural Norms that perpetrate Violence against women and girls.A good number of CWO expressed willingness to extend and impact the information and knowledge to others.We therefore announced the #16DaysOfActivismAgainstGenderBasedViolence kicking off on 25th November, with International Day For Elimination Of Violence Against Women and will be ending on the 10th December, 2021, Human Rights Day. #slocvawg#ActionAid#actionaidnigeria

Second review Meeting with Girls Right Club, Ogbenneisii with support from #actionaidnigeria Here are Girl’s Peer Educators of Brilliant Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogbenneisii Ahiazu Mbaise Imo State.Very few of them were selected to champion the course of Gender Equality in their School Environment.They are Peer Educators, trained to impact on others on changing harmful Socio-Cultural Norms that perpetrate Violence Against Women/Girls within the School and Communities.The five Girls have within a short time organized sensitization activities within the School on the need for the young people to change their perspective on social cultural norms that power VAWG.During our Review meeting with them, We took note of questions and concerns of the students and provide answers on some issues which the peer Educators were unable to attend to.OUTCOMEThe Five Peer Educators have been properly sensitized on Sexual Gender Violence.They provide written report of their monthly activities.60% of Female Students have indicated interest to join the Girls Right Club.The Girls Right Club is the first club to have existed in their School.This is our second Review Meeting as the Second year SLOC project progresses.Virgin Heart FoundationVirgin heart foundation is a call for the emancipation of the girl child, who stands the risks of rape, domestic violence and deprivation in education.
