Virgin Heart Foundation on Tuesday, 24th November, 2020 advocated for family over the case on defilement of a minor.
Our engagement with the survivor and her family, enabled us discovered that the area was prone to various vices and all forms of violence, especially incestuous rape.
Our Survivor narrated her story, She told us that she went to get firewood at okatagwu river, where most rural settlers or villagers get water, firewood and even where most sand dealers do most of their businesses.
Uche, the perpetrator who was sighted close to the river, with his son(toddler), started making advances at her, presented some amount of money to our survivor to allow him violate. she declined to collect his cash offer of #1300. She later moved inside the bush the bush to fetch firewood, only to get grabbed by same man and forcefully penetrated her with his hands held right on her neck. There were primary evidences, she bleed, her pants were torn into pieces.
On our visit(VHF TEAM) to the village, Amii-Akabo, We learnt that the survivor has not been taken to the hospital to see the doctor, We took her to Cancer Hospital , General Hospital Ikeduru, Imo State.
The doctor checked and confirmed that her vulva was reddish and bruised. The doctor recommended 5 different test., which was done and billed cleared by VHF.
VHF made effort to arrest the perpetrator, he ran away on seeing the police and until now, he is still at large with his family.
VHF condemn the unsolicited attempt by the villagers(ama-ala) skimming to settle the case within themselves.
The man is known in that community for grabbing women/girls in secluded areas, and rape them.
The Society must rise against sexual violence and all forms of violence against women and girls in various communities.
